Dispatches International is a quarterly journal of current events published by approximately two dozen student journalists from around the world (http://www.dispatchesinternational.org/). The publication is interested in developing its reporting staff in Africa. Thus, from June 15-22, 2010, Dispatches International will host eight ambitious student journalists from across Africa at a Reporter Development Conference (RDC) in Kampala, Uganda.

The conference will expose student journalists to the intricacies of journalism so that they are well-equipped to work as reporters and contribute feature articles to Dispatches International. Participants will be trained to research assigned topics, conduct interviews, determine the exclusivity of information, and structure and write credible and readable feature articles. Those interested in assuming greater responsibilities may be coached as editors or bureau managers.

When applying for the RDC, students should tell Dispatches International about their views, experience, and ambitions. Bursaries are available to cover expenses such as visas and travel costs. However, applicants must simultaneously fundraise for themselves.

For more information about the RDC and how to apply, contact Dispatches International via telephone at +001 (443) 758-3796 or by email at editor@dispatchesinternational.org. Applications to participate in the RDC are due no later than May 15th, 2010.
