This week’s Farmer story from Tanzania highlights some of the benefits of organic farming. Our Script of the week continues talking about organic agriculture, but this time the crop is organic cotton.

A Beninese organization that promotes organic agriculture worked with communities in Benin to identify actions that could reduce the impact of synthetic chemical pesticides on health and the environment. The actions included manufacturing natural pesticides and green fertilizers.

This script describes one community’s decision to experiment with organic cotton. The result was increased income that improved living conditions.

The script is a mini-drama based on actual interviews with farmers. You could use this script as inspiration to research and write a script on a similar topic in your area. Or you might choose to produce this script at your station, using voice actors to represent the speakers. If so, please make sure to tell your audience at the beginning of the program that the voices are those of actors, not the original people involved in the interviews.
