Since 2012, Edisoni Tumaini Galeba has dedicated his career to using radio to empower rural communities in the Kagera Region of Tanzania. A presenter, assistant editor, and producer at Radio Karagwe FM, he brings an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced by small-scale farmers—people who feed the nation yet often lack access to vital agricultural knowledge. His partnership with Farm Radio International has strengthened his mission to make radio a platform for learning, empowerment, and community development.

Inspired by his early work with BBC Media Action and United Nations Radio, Mr. Galeba turned his passion for rural journalism into a full-time mission. He holds a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from Dodoma Media College (2022), and over the years has produced programs that make complex topics such as climate-smart agriculture, environmental conservation, gender inclusion, and sustainable farming practices accessible and actionable for listeners.

As the host of Kilimo Chetu (Our Agriculture), Mr. Galeba brings farmers, agricultural experts, and community leaders together on-air to explore practical solutions for improving productivity and income. The program covers the full agricultural value chain—from land preparation to marketing—and emphasizes farmers’ business practices, such as managing income for timely purchases of inputs and household sustenance. In one recent episode, he led discussions on the importance of gender equality in environmental conservation and the management of natural solutions, engaging experts, farmers, and local authorities to highlight collaboration between men and women.

Mr. Galeba combines diverse radio formats—storytelling, interviews, expert analysis, music, and listener feedback—to create programs that resonate deeply with his audience. Through live call-ins, community interviews, and field reporting, he ensures that farmers actively shape the conversation. His dedication to rural broadcasting earned him recognition as one of the five runners-up for the 2021 George Atkins Communications Award and in 2025, he was one of four Tanzanian journalists highlighted by the African Center for Media Excellence for his reporting on productive use of solar energy in agriculture.

Beyond broadcasting, Mr. Galeba mentors young journalists, shapes station programming, and integrates development communication into his professional work. He trains the next generation of communicators to highlight rural development, environmental conservation, gender equity, and agricultural innovation—turning knowledge into practical action.

A passionate advocate for rural communities, Mr. Galeba views radio as a bridge between knowledge and need, policy and practice, and silence and voice. His work has made him a trusted and influential voice for farmers in the Kagera Region, helping communities become better informed, more resilient, and never alone.
