BH2: How to address mis- and dis-information

With social media and AI chatbots, people have greater access to information and greater connection to each other than ever before. Unfortunately, this has come with the rise of misinformation as well as disinformation and malinformation. Misinformation and disinformation has affected societies’ ability to take action on health issues, climate change, democracy, and more. It has even affected the agricultural space, where information on genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), organic or chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and other practices may be misstated, mischaracterized, or fabricated.

As media members and communicators, it is important to be aware of misinformation and disinformation, address mis- and dis-information, and try to keep your audience well-informed. Traditional and new media need to collaborate to create good information environments and to build trust in institutions.
