The record-breaking 2025 edition, which attracted over 1,200 teams from 138 countries, demonstrated the power of young people to drive innovation and create impactful solutions for today’s rapidly evolving information environment.
Building in this momentum, the UNESCO Youth Hackathon 2026, under the theme of “Play Your Part: Youth Designing the Future of Media and Information Literacy”, recognizes young people as key drivers of innovation and change, empowering them to contribute their creativity, leadership, and diverse perspectives to advance Media and Information Literacy (MIL) worldwide.
The winning teams will be invited by UNESCO to participate in the Voices European Festival of Journalism and Media Freedom in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 26–28 November 2026, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their projects and engage with other stakeholders.
Join the process. Online mentoring will start early July to support submissions by Aug. 16.
