The International Reporting Project is offering two fellowships to professional journalists, one for reporting on gender and LGBTI rights, and the second for reporting on peace-building and conflict resolution in Africa.
For the gender and LGBTI rights fellowship, special consideration will be given to projects from Central America, Francophone West Africa, and South and Southeast Asia. Possible topics include:
- gender- and orientation-based discrimination;
- reproductive, sexual, and maternal health;
- land rights;
- access to justice;
- shrinking civil society; and
- the effects of conflict on marginalized societies.
There is no specific deadline; proposals will be considered on an ongoing basis.
The topics for the peace-building and conflict resolution fellowship include:
- leadership;
- human rights initiatives;
- access to social services and justice;
- the status of marginalized communities;
- migration and land rights;
- change-makers; and
- climate change and food security.
Special consideration will be given to projects in Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mali, South Sudan, Sudan, and Zimbabwe. The deadline for submission is June 30.
Freelancers and staffers can apply, and should specify the format (radio, online, print, television, video) and publication in the application.
The application requires an essay of at least 1,000 words which describes the stories to be produced. Applications must be in English and include a detailed budget proposal, which can include travel, accommodation, and meals.
