Uganda: Captured LRA commander calls for comrades to abandon rebellion

A senior Lord’s Resistance Army commander who surrendered to authorities last week appealed on Ugandan television for the rebel group’s remaining fighters to give themselves up.

Dominic Ongwen is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. According to Ugandan authorities, U.S. forces that are helping fight the LRA in the Central African Republic are holding Mr. Ongwen.

Mr. Ongwen appealed directly to LRA fighters, some of them by name, to lay down their arms.
