A cholera outbreak has killed 19 people in parts of Mozambique recently hit by floods, according to government sources.
The flooding was triggered by heavy rains early this year, and has killed 158 people in Mozambique. Floods are also affecting Malawi, Madagascar and Zimbabwe.
Mozambique’s deputy health minister, Mouzinho Saide, said that flooded rivers have started to subside in northern and central provinces. In total, 177,000 people have been affected by flooding in the country.
Authorities in neighbouring Malawi report that 276 people are dead or missing.
