Liberia released the last two people known to be infected with Ebola from hospital last week. The country has now started the countdown to Ebola-free status for a third time, according to health officials.

Liberia had been the only country in West Africa with known Ebola cases. Sierra Leone was declared Ebola-free in November, while the last person infected with Ebola in Guinea recovered two weeks ago.

Tolbert Nyenswah is the Deputy Minister of Health and head of Liberia’s Ebola response team. He says, “There are no cases in the [Ebola Treatment Units] in the entire Republic of Liberia.” He added that Ebola safety procedures remain in place.

Mr. Nyenswah says, “No need to cancel your plane ticket when you are planning to come to Liberia. Continue to come here; the place is safe.”
