World Food Day, celebrated on Oct. 16, offers an important opportunity to highlight the role of family farmers. It also serves as a platform to promote sustainable agricultural practices that can enhance food diversity and improve nutritional outcomes. This year, the Global Family Farming Forum is also being held over World Food Day, from Oct. 15 – 17 at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. This event is part of the World Food Forum and celebrates the vital role that family farmers play in building sustainable food systems.

Farm Radio International will be attending this event to showcase the power of radio for rural development. We have invited three broadcasters from our network to join Maïmuouna N’Gnadiè Fané, our radio craft officer in Mali, to participate in a global radio station that will broadcast interviews, clips and dialogues with policy makers and family farmers. Learn more about these outstanding broadcasters in our Spotlight section.

We hope that you will join us in the showcasing the power of radio. As you know, rural radio provides vital communication services in rural areas, with programs crafted to meet specific knowledge and information needs of your audience. Join us in broadcasting the rich and interesting interviews on agriculture and food security from the Global Family Farming Forum.

The content from the global radio station will be made available in English, French, and Spanish via a live-streaming channel and on-demand audio files available on  the FAO ComDev website: https://www.fao.org/communication-for-development/en/. We encourage you to integrate these clips and interviews into your radio programs during the week of World Food Day. You can also access the audio files at: bit.ly/GFFFRuralRadio.

With your support in broadcasting the discussions of the Global Family Farming Forum, we can show international funders the reach and power of radio and bring critical conversations on family farming to rural areas.
