Today is the International Day of Rural Women, and the theme this year is “Rural women rising.” We are excited to celebrate the day by announcing the winner and runner up of the Liz Hughes Award for Her Farm Radio. These two stations serve their women listeners with dedication, thoughtfulness, consideration, and high quality programming. Through high-quality, relevant programming, they create space for women’s voices, address issues that matter to their lives and communities, and provide information that can support meaningful change.

Congratulations to Love Community Radio, from Salima, Malawi, the winner of the 2026 Liz Hughes Award for Her Farm Radio.

And congratulations to Radio Elle FM, from Goma, DRC, who is the first runner up.

We had great applications this year, and will share profiles of all five shortlisted candidates in the coming weeks and months. This includes Voice of Nigeria, Radio Network Service of Nigeria, and North Rift Radio, from Kenya.

But today, let’s celebrate Love Community Radio.
