Since 2018, Ayero Annet has dedicated her career to using radio to empower small-scale farmers in Northern Uganda. A presenter at Radio WA in Lira City, she brings an intimate understanding of the challenges faced by farmers who often rely on radio as their sole source of information. Through her partnership with Farm Radio International, Mrs. Annet has strengthened her mission to make radio a tool for learning, peer-to-peer knowledge sharing, and community development.
She began her career serving farmers at Faith Radio in the Mbale region of Eastern Uganda before moving to Radio WA, where she has spent the past six years producing and presenting the Farmers Program. Storytelling is at the heart of her approach—she skillfully engages farmers and subject matter experts to break down complex agricultural issues into practical advice that is easy for listeners to understand. By featuring successful farmers, she promotes peer-to-peer learning, allowing listeners to see solutions applied in real-life contexts.
Currently, Mrs. Annet leads a compelling campaign called “Ngomwa Aye Anyim” (“Our Land, Our Future”), focusing on sustainable land use and circular farming practices. Her program addresses topics such as soil fertility, land management, and adapting to changing weather patterns, engaging men, women, and youth farmers across the region. Through field visits and community interviews, she ensures that the program reflects the real challenges facing her listeners, from soil and water conservation to effective farm management.
Beyond the broadcast, Mrs. Annet creates interactive platforms for farmers to engage directly with experts, ask questions, and share their experiences. She also leverages social media, including Facebook and TikTok, to reach youth audiences and expand the program’s impact.
Mrs. Annet credits Farm Radio International for the training and resources that have shaped her approach to rural broadcasting. With her dedication, knowledge, and innovative methods, she has become a trusted voice for farmers in Northern Uganda, inspiring communities to improve their practices, adopt sustainable methods, and strengthen resilience in the face of environmental challenges.
