Are you a journalist working to hold public figures accountable? The African Fact-Checking Awards are open for entries—and offer cash prizes for the best fact-checking stories.
Africa Check, a project of the AFP Foundation, is accepting applications from print, radio, TV, and online journalists across the continent. The awards recognize original, fact-checking journalism that exposes false or misleading claims made by public figures and institutions in Africa.
Entries must have been published or broadcast between May 1, 2024, and June 7, 2025, and must come from a media outlet based in Africa. Stories may be in English or French.
There are three categories:
- Fact-check of the year by a working journalist
- Fact-check of the year by a professional fact-checker
- Fact-check of the year by a student
Winners in the first two categories will receive US$3,000, with US$1,500 for runners-up. The student winner will receive US$2,000, and the runner-up US$1,000.
The deadline to apply is June 7, 2025.To learn more and apply, visit: https://africacheck.org/what-we-do/african-fact-checking-awards
