This week’s story about improving roads underlines the potential of good post-harvest handling to improve farmers’ incomes. In 2003, Farm Radio International distributed Resource Pack #66, called “From harvest to market.”

Pack 66, Script 2 is a series of eight radio spots which present different ways to handle products in order to avoid post-harvest losses. Spot titles include: Harvesting mangoes with care; Harvest fruits and vegetables in the morning; Fruits spoil in the sun; Separate fruit from the stem; How to harvest immature fruits; Transport with care; Avoid sap burn in mangoes; and (perhaps most relevant to this week’s story) Bumpy roads hurt produce.

The script is followed by a selection of useful online resources.
