Adventures of Neddy: A community animal health worker helps a village manage Newcastle disease

In keeping with this week’s story that showed how livestock farmers can profit by paying close attention to livestock health, our script of the week focuses on a serious disease of chickens.

In part, because chickens are small animals that graze freely on readily available foods, they are very valuable to farming families. But chickens are susceptible to a disease which has no cure: Newcastle disease. Though the disease does not have a cure, there is a vaccine. This week’s script, a mini-drama, introduces the idea of community vaccination for chickens by community animal health workers, also called paraveterarians or paravets.
