A Kenyan farmer uses water hyacinth to feed chickens

One of this week’s stories looks at the tension between using farmland to grow fodder for animals and using it to grow food crops for humans. In the Script of the week, we hear how a farmer in Kenya has found an alternative chicken feed. Instead of feeding his chickens with grains, he now uses water hyacinth. As well as saving his grain for his family, he has found a use for water hyacinth, a plant which is often regarded as an invasive weed.
