World Radio Day is celebrated every year on February 13. Farm Radio International joins UNESCO in inviting all radio stations and supporting organizations to come together and celebrate this powerful communication tool that continues to reach the widest audience in the world: Radio.

The objective of World Radio Day is to raise awareness about the importance of radio, to encourage decision-makers and those in power to use radio to disseminate information, and to increase networking and collaboration among radio broadcasters around the world.

This year’s theme is “Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace” and the day will celebrate radio as an important medium to build strong and resilient communities. Radio brings people together because of its reach and accessibility. Thus, it is a valuable tool to foster dialogue and communication in order to counter conflict and intolerance, particularly in vulnerable regions that are prone to violence.
