World Food Day is celebrated every year on Oct. 16. This year’s theme is “Grow, nourish, sustain. Together.” This theme focuses on helping the most vulnerable people recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Farmers are essential to this effort. More sustainable, stronger, resilient food systems will support the most vulnerable now and in the future.

One element of this theme is a focus on nutrition. Good food choices will improve our health. Learn more about nutrition here: http://scripts.farmradio.fm/radio-resource-packs/farm-radio-resource-pack-114/backgrounder-on-nutrition/

Another element is sustainable food systems. This includes decent livelihoods for food system workers, climate-smart agricultural practices, and good investment in food systems.

These elements are also at the core of the UN Decade of Family Farming, which recognizes the role of family farmers in eliminating hunger and shaping the future of food systems.
