Women in agricultural extension

One of this week’s Farmer stories highlights the gap between women and men farmers’ access to agricultural tools and training. Researchers say women could increase their food production by 30% if they had the same access as men to inputs, loans, information, and markets.

The story also points out that, although women do much of the farm work, they are underrepresented among extension officers, agricultural researchers, and entrepreneurs.

An international NGO called Access Agriculture created this 15-minute video to explore the need to consider gender within extension services.

The video is available in English, French, Dagaari, Dagbani, Dioula, Hausa, Swahili, Kusaal, Mooré, Peulh Fulfuldé, Portuguese, Sisaala, Wolof, and Zarma. Radio stations can download the audio for broadcast.
