COVID-19 vaccines have proven to be safe, effective, and life-saving. Like all vaccines, they do not fully protect 100% of those who are vaccinated, and we do not yet know exactly how well they can prevent people from transmitting the virus to others.

This resource from WHO answers the following questions, and more:

    • What is the difference between vaccine efficacy and effectiveness?
    • What does vaccine efficacy really mean?
    • What is the timing involved with vaccine protection?
    • Do vaccines prevent everyone from getting sick with COVID-19?
    • Are vaccines effective against COVID-19 variants, such as the Delta variant?

In addition to getting vaccinated, you can continue to fight the pandemic through the following preventative measures:

    • Wash your hands
    • Wear a mask
    • Maintain at least 1-metre distance from others
    • Avoid crowds and enclosed spaces
    • Keep rooms well-ventilated by opening windows
    • Get vaccinated when it’s your turn
