Upcoming global conference on climate change

What is COP26 and why is it important?

This article produced by the Climate and Energy Intelligence Unit explains that the Conference of the Parties (COP) is an annual and global climate conference that brings together the leaders of the United Nations member states.

This year, for the 26th Conference of the Parties, these leaders will meet in Glasgow, Scotland. The aim of COP26 will be to measure the progress made by each since the Paris Climate Agreement, a legally binding international treaty on climate change, was adopted in 2015. It is also an opportunity for countries to strengthen their national commitments to climate action.

The article also explains the functions of the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC), the meaning and goals of COP 26, and how these bodies can help address climate action into the future.
