With the conclusion of COP26 on November 12th, many non-governmental organizations such as La Via Campesina have reflected on the conference. La Via Campesina published this article highlighting the importance of sustainable agricultural practices for small-scale farmers in the discussions among world leaders regarding climate change.

La Via Campesina provide a critique of the net zero and compensation mechanisms proposals. They argue: “To achieve real change, farmers must be paid fairly for their work,” in addition to resuming the focus on sustainable solutions. Additionally, La Via Campesina suggests that solutions must stop focusing on new technologies and techniques, and industrial farming, to focus instead on small and medium-scale farmers.
