The Data Journalism Handbook

The Data Journalism Handbook is an initiative of the European Journalism Centre [1] and the Open Knowledge Foundation [2]. It is freely available online under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike [3] license.

Data journalism is “the use of data and number crunching in journalism to uncover, better explain and/or provide context to a news story.” According to the Data Journalism Handbook, data can be “either the tool used to tell a story, the source upon which a story is based, or both. It often involves the use of statistics, charts, graphs or infographics.”

The Data Journalism Handbook is an open source reference book for anyone interested in the emerging field of data journalism. It gives interested readers a sense of how to get started in data journalism, and where to look if they want to go further.

The Handbook can be read or downloaded at this address: http://datajournalismhandbook.org/1.0/en/ [4]
