Rumours can identify stories to investigate. Or they can lead to misinformation, tensions, and violence. Search for Common Ground and Radio for Peacebuilding in Africa have collaborated to develop a short (16-page) training manual for journalists on how to deal with rumours. The Rumour Management Manual was inspired by practical experience in Burundi. The training manual aims to pass on the knowledge, skills and attitudes journalists need to better analyze and respond to rumours.

You can register, with an email and password, on the Radio for Peacebuilding Africa website. You will then have access to many other useful resources, and be part of the website community: http://www.radiopeaceafrica.org/.

The manual is free to download in colour or black and white.
