Around the world, journalists face increasingly hostile environments. Reporta is a tool for journalists in difficult or dangerous situations.
The International Women’s Media Foundation [1] designed Reporta to assist journalists working in potentially dangerous conditions. The tool helps them set up and control their personal security measures at the touch of a button.
The app has three key functions:
- an automated and flexible Check-in system designed for use by journalists in dangerous environments
- customized Alerts—including photos, audio or video—when a journalist’s safety or that of a colleague may be at risk
- an SOS button to send a distress message to designated contacts before the app shuts down to prevent unwanted access
The free app is available for use on iPhone and Android devices. It has Arabic, English, French, Hebrew, Spanish, and Turkish language settings.
