This year, 2016, is the International Year of Pulses. To celebrate and better understand the nutritious qualities of pulses, FAO has published a book that features 30 recipes from 10 top international chefs, along with a wealth of information about varieties of dried beans, their health benefits, and their cultural significance around the world.

Among the featured chefs is Tanzanian Veronica Jackson, and her recipes for three dishes: maharagwe ya nazi (Beans in coconut milk), makande (Sweet corn and bean soup), and maharagwe. The recipes can be found on pages 188, 190, and 191 of the book.
