World Radio Day is celebrated every year on Feb. 13. It’s an opportunity to recognize the role radio plays in our lives: communicating important information, providing entertainment, sharing stories, and starting conversations.

Farm Radio International is celebrating World Radio Day by talking about what radio is. Join us by sharing an audio or video clip saying what radio means to you. Introduce yourself and complete the sentence “Radio is …” with a word, phrase, or short anecdote. Talk about your work, your first memories listening to the radio, or what inspired you to become a radio broadcaster.

Share your World Radio Day audio or video clips with us on social media.

And find our own video from Farm Radio staff on our social media!

The theme of World Radio Day 2020 is diversity. It celebrates pluralism in radio, including the role of public, private, and community broadcasters. Farm Radio International has more than 950 broadcasting partners, including public, private, community, and religious stations. This World Radio Day is also celebrating representation in the newsroom. It’s important that radio station teams and the content they present on the airwaves represent the experiences and viewpoints of diverse groups, including men, women, and youth, as well as marginalized groups in the community. This World Radio Day also celebrates diversity in editorial content and types of programs, reflecting the diversity of audiences and their needs. How do you serve your audience’s needs?
