The “O” in Farm Radio International’s VOICE Standards stands for Opportunity. Interactive programs provide farmers with the opportunity to speak and be heard on all matters. These kinds of programs focus on encouraging small-scale farmers to name their concerns, discuss them, and organize to act on them.

This broadcaster how-to document defines interactive programming, gives examples of typical interactive formats, and provides eight examples of interactive programs currently or formerly aired on African stations.

The diverse programs reflect the wide variety of reasons for broadcasting interactive programs, and the range of benefits that an interactive program can provide.
