Birds chirping, water gurgling in a small stream, farmers singing as they work: these are some examples of wild or ambient sound that broadcasters can use to make their radio programs more inviting, informative, and entertaining.

Wild sound is any natural or human sound that is recorded in a particular location and incorporated into a program. These sounds can be used in the background of a main recording such as an interview, or to mark a transition between two parts of a program.

This week’s Broadcaster how-to guide explains how using wild sound can improve your radio programs. It also describes in detail how to gather and use wild sound, including what equipment to use.
