This week, our Farmer stories discuss raising livestock. Farmers need to keep their herd healthy because they rely on these animals for food and income. Here are some resources for learning about livestock health:

Practical Action is an NGO that produces resources on a range of rural issues, including agriculture, health, and gender. They have several fact sheets on livestock rearing and animal husbandry, available in English and French. To read them, go to: https://answers.practicalaction.org/our-resources/community/livestock-6

This nine-page document from Practical Action offers tips for dealing with tick-borne diseases, including anaplasmosis, babesiosis (redwater), East Coast Fever, heartwater, and trypanosomiasis. GALVmed is another good resource for information about protecting livestock, and particularly about vaccinations. Read their blog and watch their videos to learn more: https://www.galvmed.org/diseases/

The World Organisation for Animal Health also has a comprehensive database of information on various animal diseases. For this useful technical information, go to: http://www.oie.int/en/animal-health-in-the-world/information-on-aquatic-and-terrestrial-animal-diseases/
