Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is offering a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) on covering COVID-19.

This free online course is self-paced and runs until May 31, 2020. It covers the history of pandemics and pandemic response, how to detect and fight misinformation, story angles on the COVID-19 pandemic, and self-care for journalists.

Each module includes a series of videos, presentations, quizzes, and discussion forums. The course is available in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Thomson Foundation

The Thomson Foundation is also offering a free online course on safe reporting practices for journalists covering COVID-19.

The self-paced course is divided into seven sections that cover topics such as how to adapt work practices in the context of COVID-19, how to plan for safe field coverage, how to minimize the risk of infection while reporting, how to safely use video and audio equipment in a pandemic, and self-care.

The estimated time required to complete the course is four hours. The course is available only in English.
