Internews’ Earth Journalism Network is offering journalists the opportunity to attend and cover the 14th Conference of the Parties (COP14) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, which is taking place in New Delhi, India, in early September 2019.

The UN Convention to Combat Desertification COP14 will be a key gathering to review progress made towards reversing desertification, land degradation, and drought. Representatives from national, regional, and local governments will attend, as well as scientists, researchers, and private business.

Five journalists from Africa and India will be selected for this fellowship, with an emphasis on reporters from arid regions or regions impacted by drought and desertification. Fellows will attend the conference from Sept. 6-14, where they will participate in mentoring, an orientation workshop, and interviews and briefings with high-level officials.

The fellowship will cover the cost of travel and accommodation and will support the process of press accreditation.

Applicants must be professional journalists from a developing country. The application includes essay questions about reporting on desertification and degradation as well as story pitches.
