The Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF) is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) working towards the empowerment of women and children. The organization aims to honour creative and courageous women and women’s groups around the world for their contributions to improving the quality of life in rural communities by awarding at least 20 prizes and a donation of 3000 US dollars to established organizations in Africa. The prizes are designed to draw international attention to the laureates’ contributions to sustainable development, household food security, and peace, thus generating greater recognition and support for their projects. A travelling exposition and a global poster will provide visibility for all prize winners.
Eligible participants are women, or groups of women, who are currently active in rural life, but have not been recognized with other awards. The nominating organization or individual must have direct experience in the nominee’s work field. The prize is a recognition of successful accomplishments rather than a fund for future projects. A maximum of three nominees may be submitted by any one person or organization in a year. The written nomination can be submitted in English, French or Spanish. The deadline is March 31st, 2009.

There are some exceptions to nominations – please check the website for more details.
