The deadline to submit applications for the Kim Wall Memorial Fund 2024 is Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 11:59 PM EST (Eastern Standard Time). The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) will grant $5,000 to journalists whose work reflects the essence of Kim Wall’s reporting. The fund supports women or non-binary reporters covering subcultures and what Kim termed “the undercurrents of rebellion.” Kim’s vision was to see more women engaging with life, and this fund honours that vision.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Affiliated or freelance women or non-binary journalists with one or more years of professional experience in news media globally. Internships are not considered professional experience.
  • Proficient written and verbal English skills are necessary for full program participation. However, reporting can be published in any language.
  • Applicants must demonstrate interest from an editor or have a proven record of publication in prominent media outlets.
  • Grants cover reporting-related expenses such as travel, logistics, insurance, visa fees, professional stipends, and payments for producers or translators. The IWMF does not cover equipment costs or support academic research for publication.

The IWMF embraces diverse gender identities, including women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming journalists.

Application period:

Applications are accepted from Nov. 6 to Dec. 17, 2023, at 11:59 PM EST. Time-sensitive proposals cannot be considered. Review of applications will take place in January and February 2024, with responses provided by the end of February 2024. Grantees will be publicly announced on Kim’s birthday, March 23.
