IUCN (the International Union for Conservation of Nature) is now accepting nominations for the 2010 Environmental Media Awards.
The awards are a worldwide competition to raise global awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues. They recognize media and information that link environmental issues and the concerns of everyday life. They are designed to encourage high standards in environmental reporting worldwide.
The awards are aimed at journalists working in print or online media. Nominations may be made by media publishers, editors, TV producers and IUCN staff. To be eligible, all entries must be published or posted between June 11, 2008 and July 31, 2010. The competition is run in partnership with the Thomson Reuters Foundation and COMplus.
Six regional winners ? from Asia, English-speaking Africa, French-speaking Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America, and Oceania ? will be awarded cash prizes of 500 US dollars (approximately 405 Euros) each. The overall winner will receive a cash prize of 5,000 US dollars (approximately 4,060 Euros), and a travel grant to attend the award ceremony in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan in October 2010.
