Vaccines are critical in preventing severe illness as a result of COVID-19 and keeping our communities healthy. Yet many people still have questions or are hesitant about the COVID-19 vaccines. As a broadcaster, you are a trusted and respected voice in your community. You reach thousands of men, women, boys, and girls through your programming. Lend your voice to an important cause! Join our campaign to promote COVID-19 vaccines, answer your listeners’ questions, and provide good information on access to and efficacy of vaccines available in your community.

Farm Radio International is engaging radio partners in 16 countries in our vaccine confidence campaign, which will be on air between May and August 2022. We would like you to join us in broadcasting good information on COVID-19 across your airwaves.

We will design this campaign together, selecting key messages and themes that resonate with your audiences and address the information needs of your listeners. The campaign will include radio spots and interview segments that you can air on multiple programs at your station. We want to reach as many people as possible with these messages: young and old, men, women, girls and boys.

In this campaign, your station will:

  • Address fake news and misinformation
  • Answer frequently asked questions from your listeners about COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccines
  • Promote vaccination against COVID-19 in your community
  • Ensure women and men have the information they need to ensure they are safe from COVID-19
  • And more!

It is time to take action on COVID-19. If you are from one of the following countries, join our campaign. Click here to sign up.

The campaign details

If you agree to join the campaign, you will commit to broadcasting at least 50 minutes of programming each week about COVID-19 vaccines, public health measures (masks, physical distancing, handwashing, etc.), and related gender equality issues for 10-12 weeks. (The exact timing of the campaign will be determined through discussions with local health authorities to maximize the impact of this campaign.) This campaign will include interview segments aired on at least five different programs at your station. This may include your sports, music, politics, or youth programs, as well as farmer programs, health programs and other programming. The campaign will also include radio spots, jingles, public service announcements and other formats. We also hope that you will share the messages of this campaign on your social media channels.

You will have the opportunity to shape this campaign by participating in a design process with Farm Radio, other radio stations in your country, and relevant stakeholders, including health agencies, community organizations, and women’s groups.

We will also ask that you broadcast spots promoting our Uliza poll, which is a platform to collect feedback from your listeners. This feedback will help us learn more about the information needs of your audience and the impact of the campaign.

As part of the campaign, we will offer online training sessions on radio skills and formats, including the use of radio spots. These training sessions will use our online learning modules, WhatsApp group, and Zoom. These training sessions will also offer an opportunity to interact with subject-matter specialists to gather the information necessary to craft the campaign messages. At the end of the three-week period, your team will have contributed to the campaign design. This training and design will begin in April.

Farm Radio will also be producing many radio scripts, spots, stories, and other resources to inform the campaign.

You will be asked to demonstrate your participation by sharing selected recordings of the spots and segments you air. You will be given a login to our Uliza Log platform to upload your recordings. You will also need to submit a report detailing the dates and times you aired all of your campaign spots and segments.

Farm Radio International will be there to support you every step of the way. Our networking officers will be on hand through the training and when you are on air to help you find resources and interview guests, and to answer any questions.

We are happy to offer a small honorarium to all radio stations who fully participate in the campaign. We will draft and send you an honorarium letter if you indicate your willingness to participate in the campaign. Sign up here: https://forms.gle/MJXVXqiqkxRuYu796
