January 28, 2010: Deadline to apply for CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards!

    Applications are now being accepted for the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards. This competition aims to encourage, promote, and recognize excellence in African journalism. There are 16 different award categories, including an HIV/AIDS Reporting Award, Environment Award, Arts and Culture Award, and Tourism Award. Entries are accepted from print, television, internet, radio, or photographic media, and there is a specific category for Radio General News.

    The judges will be looking for work which: tells a story in a clear, comprehensive, and balanced manner; makes stories or issues accessible and relevant to audiences; demonstrates journalistic ability and integrity; displays well-organized research, depth, and insight; and was broadcast or published in 2009. Entries must be submitted in English, French, or Portuguese.

    Winners in each award category will receive a laptop computer and printer. From the category winners, the judges will select a grand prize winner, who will receive an additional cash prize and the opportunity to participate in the CNN Journalism Fellowship in the United States.
