The Earth Journalism Network is now accepting applicants for Ocean Media Innovative Story Grants 2022: Covering the High Seas. These grants support the production of in-depth stories focusing on the high seas, including their importance to climate change, biodiversity, and other global issues; the threats they face; and ongoing protection efforts. Applicants can be from any country and the stories can be produced in any medium—online, print, television, or radio.

To apply, complete the application form and use the template provided to create a detailed budget justifying the requested amount. Grants will be issued in March, with the expectation that stories will be published by the end of September at latest. Freelance reporters should submit a plan for publishing or broadcasting the story produced with the grant.

You can apply for this grant in English, Spanish, French, Bahasa Indonesia, or Portuguese. The stories can be written in any language, but non-English stories require an English translation, which journalists should account for in the budget.

There are up to 10 grants available, with an average budget of $1,200.The deadline to apply is March 2, 2022. For more information and to apply, go here:
