Global Media Competition on Labour Migration

The International Labour Organization has launched a global media competition to encourage quality reporting on labour migration and recruitment of migrant workers.

Media coverage often reinforces “a toxic public narrative” about migration and migrant workers, focused on nationality, national origin, gender and migratory status. While not overlooking the negative aspects, journalists are encouraged to highlight the positive contribution of migrant workers to countries of origin, transit, and destination, as well as how fair and transparent recruitment practices can contribute to making migration a positive experience for all.

Professional journalists and photographers are invited to submit a maximum of two entries to the following categories:

Articles should not exceed 8,000 words and radio productions should not be longer than 10 minutes. Submissions must have been published between June 1, 2017 and Oct. 31, 2018. Entries may be in English, French, or Spanish.

Four winners will receive $1,000 US each and their work will be featured on the International Labour Organization’s website.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 31.
