Poynter is now offering two free online tutorials to journalists.

The first tutorial —Clear, Strong Writing for Broadcast Journalism — covers the basics of clear and interesting writing for broadcasting audiences.

The one-hour, online tutorial is self-guided and addresses how to establish a central conflict in a story, how to attract a broad audience, how to improve writing techniques for focused storytelling, and how to effectively include details in a story.

The second tutorial — Powerful Writing: Leverage Your Video and Sound — is a follow-up tutorial to help journalists integrate audio, video, and copy into their reporting.

The one-hour, online tutorial is self-guided and addresses how to use natural sound to improve video, how to incorporate sound clips to tell a story, and how to write copy that flows with video.

Both tutorials are led by a senior faculty member of the Poynter Institute and are ideal for producers and broadcasters in their early career. The tutorials are available in English only.
