Fact-checking competition open to journalists based in Africa

Africa Check is inviting print, broadcast, and online journalists based in Africa to apply for the African Fact-Checking Awards.

To apply, journalists must submit original pieces of fact-checking journalism published or broadcast by a news outlet based in Africa between August 1, 2019 and July 22, 2020. The award aims to honour journalism that exposes misleading claims made by public figures or institutions with cash prizes between $1,000 and $3,000 US.

The award is available in two categories: fact-check of the year by a working journalist and fact-check of the year by a student. A winner and a runner-up will be named for each category.

Applications and entries can be made in English and French.

The deadline to apply is July 22, 2020.
