The Women’s World Summit Foundation, or WWSF, is inviting nominations for its 20th annual Prize for women’s creativity in rural life. The Prize honours and rewards creative and courageous women and women’s groups around the world that work to improve the quality of life in rural communities.

Women head 60 per cent of households in some regions of Africa. They also meet 90 per cent of household water and fuel needs across Africa. This Prize seeks to advance the status of rural women, respect their rights and honour their contribution to development, household food security and peace.

Over 400 people have won the Prize since its inception in 1994. Winners are awarded $1,000 U.S. each. You can find a brief description of the work done by previous prize winners on the WWSF website: http://womensection.woman.ch/index.php/en/laureates/laureates-2014

About 10 prize winners will be selected in 2015 and announced to the media on October 15 – the International Day of Rural Women.

Nominations must reach WWSF by post no later than April 30, 2014. The Prize Jury will not consider incomplete nominations.
