The Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF), in partnership with the African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME), is looking for skilled investigative or financial and business journalists based anywhere in Africa to participate in a long-term scheme to develop the journalists’ ability to report on illicit finance and tax abuse.

Successful candidates will participate in two intensive three-to-five day workshops covering illicit finance, reporting on companies, accounts and budgets, and investigative techniques. TRF and ACME will provide experienced investigative journalists to help participants pursue stories right up to publication or broadcast.

Participants will have access to story ideas, editorial advice, and regular expert-led webinars on how to research illicit finance. They will also be invited to share their expertise with participants from other regions.

Workshops in 2015 are provisionally scheduled for June and September in a variety of locations, including Uganda, South Africa, Senegal and Tunisia.

Journalists working in any medium or in multiple media (print, online, radio or television) with at least two years of professional experience, experience of investigative journalism and/or reporting on companies/finances, and proven motivation to spend significant time reporting on illicit finance and tax abuse are encouraged to apply.

Both freelancers and staff journalists may apply. Journalists working for a news organization will need consent from their editor to take part. Freelancers should provide evidence that one or more media organizations will be willing to take their work.

The deadline for applications is 0900 GMT, April 5, 2015.
