The Thomson Reuters Foundation hosts the annual Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism. The Awards honour freelance journalists and local reporters in developing countries or nations in transition who might otherwise receive little recognition.
The Awards feature two categories:
- Freelance journalists covering international news
- Local reporters covering events in their home country or region
Print and online journalists are invited to submit three articles which were published between June 1, 2014 and May 31, 2015. The articles must be translated into English if originally written in a different language.
The stories can focus on conflict, human rights, cross-border issues, or any controversial matter in a particular country or region. Each submission must demonstrate professionalism, meet international journalistic standards, and provide evidence that courage and determination were required to cover the story.
Each winner will receive $5,000 U.S. in prize money at a ceremony to be held in London, U.K. The deadline for applications is May 31, 2015.
