Arthur J. Carter Journalism Institute Reporting Award

This award allows reporters to access up to US$12,500 for a work of journalism in any medium that reports on significant, underreported subjects in the public interest. The Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University in the US established the award to encourage enterprise journalism during a time of extensive layoffs and budget cuts throughout the journalism industry.

The Institute’s awards committee will select one or several winners of the Reporting Award. Each winner may receive a different amount of money. Each will receive an advance of US$2,500 on acceptance of a proposal, and is eligible to receive the balance upon completion and acceptance of the work by Nov. 1, 2018. The winner can also use the Institute’s facilities, New York University’s libraries, and other scholarly resources.

Journalists from outside the US are eligible to apply; however, the work that the award supports must be in English and must be accepted for publication by a reputable media outlet with a wide circulation.

The Institute will not fund reporting that the awards committee feels will endanger the journalist.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 31, 2018.
