The biannual Africa Media and Democracy Conference (AMDMC) will be held in Accra, Ghana, from August 18-20, 2010. With the theme of “Mediating Democracy in Africa,” the conference examines the broad impact of the media on democracy.
The conference addresses various media practices, including the “announcing of election results” ahead of an Electoral Commission, and the “deployment of Press Conferences” by political parties during the voting and ballot counting period of an election. The conference will address both the legal and ethical issues that arise from such practices. It will provide background for comparison, dialogue, and analysis between media practices located in different cultural and political environments.
The Africa Media and Democracy Conference is designed for politicians, parliamentarians, media owners and managers; broadcast, print, online and community journalists, students, and non-governmental members.
Participants can register for the conference before or on arrival in Accra. All participants must register online. The registration fee is 150 American dollars (approximately 120 Euros), with a 100 American dollars (around 79 Euros) fee for students. The AMDMC does not offer sponsorship. They can, however, provide a letter of invitation to help applicants secure other funding.
