Africa-China reporting workshop and fieldwork

Journalists interested in covering Africa-China relations can apply to participate in a three-day training workshop at Wits Journalism in Johannesburg, South Africa. The workshop will be followed by 10 days of mentored fieldwork to complete an investigative report.

The Africa-China Reporting Project will pair five African journalists will five Chinese journalists to work on investigations. The objective is for the journalists to learn from one another.

The project provides airfare, accommodation, stipends, and related expenses.

Applicants must provide the following:
— CV and biography (up to 250 words).
— List of previously published reporting on Africa and/or Africa-China.
— Their choice of one of the following reporting themes:

  • Industrialization and development;
  • Business, economy, and trade;
  • Agriculture and food security;
  • Environment;
  • Culture, language, and education.

— Africa-China research proposal that can be investigated in Johannesburg/Gauteng during the time frame provided.

The training and fieldwork will be conducted in English from Nov. 7-20, 2017.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 29, 2017.
