Zimbabwe: Thousands of farmers face eviction

The Zimbabwean government has issued eviction notices to 18,000 families after they allegedly occupied a number of farms in the Midlands province without government approval.

Chiefs and headmen allegedly resettled some of the farmers in 2013 without approval from the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement.

Kudzai Katiyo is the provincial lands officer for Midlands province. She said, “We have about 18,000 illegally resettled people who are supposed to be moved from the farms they are occupying. We have started serving the illegal settlers with eviction notices.”
