The Zimbabwean government has warned individuals selling quail birds and eggs to avoid claiming that the products have medicinal value—and to avoid poaching wild eggs.
Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa clarified the statement by saying that it is not a general ban on quail rearing, but is intended for people who gather wild quail eggs and sell them with claims of medicinal value.
Mr. Mnangagwa said, “There is a way of rearing quail birds commercially, carrying out your quail birds project and selling to hotels, but we do not allow people to poach quail birds in the National Parks…. That is the issue.”
