Nigeria: Government agency says no GMOs without authorization (Vanguard)

Nigeria’s National Biosafety Management Agency is assuring the public that no genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, will be allowed in the country without regulatory approval.

Dr. Rugus Ebegba is the director general of the agency. He said that new technologies offer great potential for economic growth, but that this needs to be balanced with adequate monitoring to ensure the technologies are safe, as well as environmentally and socially sustainable.

He added, “The public must trust [the] government position in the regulation of modern biotechnology and GMOs.”
